EARTH DAY

Earth Day is the day we celebrate the movement for environmental protection and raise awareness on the negative impacts of mankind’s actions on the environment and ways to maintain a clean habitat.

Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the movement for environmental protection. Today, we celebrate the golden jubilee of Earth Day, themed: "Climate Action". Fifty years ago, 20 million people took to the streets for the sake of the environment. This was the first Earth Day. https://www.earthday.org/history

Earth Day 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the movement for environmental protection. To honor this milestone, you can join in the fight for a clean environment through these simple ways:

Ø  Emissions reduction - Transportation is the second leading source of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. You can curtail transportation fuel needs by moving closer to work, use mass transit, and cycle to reasonable distances to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Ø  Implement and promote the sustainable ‘Rs’ (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) to conserve natural resources and landfill space - You can cut down the trash you throw and carry out awareness campaigns on the advantages of the sustainable ‘Rs’.

Ø  Take action to save forests by practicing afforestation and reforestation - Trees provide food and oxygen. They also help save energy, clean the air, and help combat climate change.

Ø  Educate - You can help others understand the importance and value of our natural resources.

Ø  Volunteer - Volunteer for community cleanups and help in the protection of the watershed.

Ø  Conserve Water - The less water you use, the less runoff and wastewater that eventually ends in the ocean.

Ø  Smart Shopping - Buy less plastic and bring a reusable shopping bag.

Ø  Energy savers Energy efficient light bulbs reduce greenhouse gas emissions. You can also make sure to switch off the bulb when not in use.

As we celebrate Earth Day let us remember that "The purest form of love is knowing that the world is not given to us by our ancestors, but borrowed from the future generations"

Happy Earth Day!
