PLASTIC FREE ENVIRONMENT

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr the famous is remembered for his powerful civil rights legacy and his nonviolent protests that have inspired half a century of peaceful protest in support of equality for blacks and whites.

A few months before his death he delivered the famous Christmas Sermon of 1967, he said:
“It really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

Though, he, Martin Luther King Jr never really advocated for a plastic-free society and global warming. I have a strong hatch, that if today, he was to be resurrected from his grave, he would speak about these things because they invariably lead to a divide.

In the words of  Mr King,  "....all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality..."so it follows that the well-being of humans is deeply tied to the interconnectedness of a healthy environment that includes a plastic-free environment, healthy lands, clean water and unpolluted air, and safe environments for both humans and wildlife to thrive.

We leave in an environment of mutuality. Man depends on the environment and the animals that surround him. But man is superior, he has a voice to speak and act humanly because of his intelligence, since wildlife can’t speak for itself, it falls on man to provide a voice for the vulnerable creatures and the voiceless environment. Plastics are one of the main nemesis of our time.

We have to act on this. Here are a few things you and I can do to promote a plastic free environment that is threatening life both in the water and on land;

1: Carry reusable shopping bags....

2: Give up bottled water....

3: Carry your own containers for take-out food and leftovers....

4: Carry a stainless steel travel mug or water bottle at all times for coffee and other drinks while out in the world....

5: Carry reusable utensils and glass drinking straws.

Martin Luther King Jr died before seeing the fruit of his labor but it sure did come. He was the spark that ignited the equality that we somewhat enjoy now. You might see the effect of your drudgery, but be the spark that ignites a movement. That one spark can light up a movement that will bring change in our community.

Here's to a plastic-free environment!
